Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the alleged misbehaviour against two journalists in Bara by a police officer.

Issuing a press statement Monday FNJ said, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of National Investigation Department Bara, Ram Prasad Das, misbehaved with the treasurer of FNJ Bara chapter Jaya Narayan Yadav and reporter of Sagarmatha Television Ramesh Subedi on Sunday at his office in Birgunj.

Journalists Yadav and Subedi had gone to the office of DSP Das for reporting.

When DSP Das saw journalist Yadav at his office, he used foul languages and forced the journalist duo out of his office accusing Yadav of writing negative news about him.

FNJ feels, this is a clear violation of press freedom and freedom of expression, FNJ said.

FNJ feels DSP Das, being a civil servant should act responsibly and if he has any complaints against journalists, he should seek other means of remedies rather than misbehaving with a responsible journalist, the statement reads.

FNJ has demanded for proper investigation in the case.
